HPC User Day 2026 Highlights PERUN’s Capabilities and the Impact of HPC-Driven Research

On 10 June 2026, HPC User Day 2026 took place at the Aula of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, bringing together high-performance computing users, researchers, and experts from a wide range of scientific disciplines. The event provided a platform for sharing experiences, presenting research results, and discussing the future development of high-performance computing in Slovakia.

The morning programme focused on the latest developments in the national HPC infrastructure. Participants learned more about the new PERUN supercomputer, current HPC services, software environments available on the PERUN and Devana systems, as well as cybersecurity measures. The presentations also offered an overview of upcoming developments and new opportunities for HPC users.

The afternoon session featured user presentations demonstrating the broad spectrum of scientific fields that benefit from HPC technologies. Marianna Derzsi presented Simple Compounds, Unexpected Worlds, while Alexandra Zahradníková showcased the use of HPC in molecular simulations in her talk From Atoms to Allostery: HPC-Driven Molecular Dynamics of Ryanodine Receptors. Eva Fojcíková introduced the ESTE4Space HPC project, focused on modelling the radiological consequences of nuclear space mission mishaps for safety analysis purposes.

The programme continued with Advancing DNA Research through High-Performance Computing, in which Dušan Račko highlighted the role of HPC in DNA research. Alfredo Daniel Sanchez Rossi presented Effect of Na⁺/K⁺ Ion Exchange on the Structure, Elasticity, and Transport Properties of Soda-Lime Silica Glass: A Molecular Dynamics Study, demonstrating the application of molecular dynamics in materials science. Viktor Kocur then introduced RePoseD: Efficient Relative Pose Estimation with Known Depth Information, focused on computer vision and image processing.

The scientific programme concluded with a presentation by Marek Dobeš, Creating the Slovak LLM and Searching for the Data, which explored the challenges of developing a Slovak large language model and identifying suitable data sources for its training.

The event concluded with a poster session and networking opportunities, providing space for professional discussions, knowledge exchange, and the establishment of new collaborations within the growing Slovak HPC community.

We would like to thank all speakers, participants, and partners for their active involvement and support. We are encouraged by the growing interest in high-performance computing and believe that HPC User Day will continue to serve as a platform where cutting-edge research, innovation, and technology come together.
